“It is not incumbent upon you to finish the task, but neither are you free to absolve yourself from it.”
Beit Yisrael is an urban kibbutz located at the heart of a troubled public housing project in Jerusalem.
In 1993, ten idealistic young people made their homes in the vulnerable neighborhood of Gilo Aleph, Jerusalem. These modern-day pioneers set to work, befriending their neighbors and working from within to strengthen the struggling community, bridge gaps and nurture social change. Over time the core group grew to include some 90 families from across Israel, who to this day work alongside the Jerusalem municipality and local NGOs to bring about a Jewish renaissance.
Kvutzat Reut is the non-profit organization founded by the kibbutz members as a vehicle to promote unity and activism in Israeli society. Our work today focuses on several areas, including education, leadership development, community building and more.
