“It is not incumbent upon you to finish the task, but neither are you free to absolve yourself from it.”
The Kvutzat Reut – Beit Yisrael organization engages in communal living, study, and activism in Jerusalem to address intricate social issues facing Israel today. We are a pluralistic community working to realize our vision of a just society in Israel’s capital. In order to achieve broader impact in Israel’s capital, we partner with Jerusalem municipal and nonprofit institutions to build a more socially committed and active society.
Over 20 years ago, a group of urban social pioneers from diverse Jewish backgrounds formed Kibbutz Beit Yisrael and settled in the low income Gilo Aleph public housing project. The Beit Yisrael community, now grown to over 70 families and over 100 young men and women, was built on the pillars of Jewish pluralism and social action. In 1993 we created the Kvutzat Reut nonprofit as a vehicle to promote social responsibility and religious tolerance from within Jerusalem’s urban landscape.
